Airbnb, the online accommodation hosting platform, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Tourism in India. The purpose of this partnership is to promote cultural tourism and showcase India's heritage stays.
As part of the 'Visit India 2023' initiative, Airbnb will collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to support inbound tourism. To achieve this, the company will launch a dedicated microsite called 'Soul of India,' specifically designed for a global audience. This microsite aims to highlight India's vibrant culture and rich architectural heritage. Airbnb disclosed these details in a regulatory filing.
Furthermore, Airbnb will extend its assistance to hosts in untapped tourist areas by helping them promote their homestays. The company will focus on building host capacity and nurturing a culture of responsible hosting. By doing so, Airbnb aims to contribute to the growth of local communities and foster economic opportunities.
The MoU also includes Airbnb's commitment to training hospitality micro-entrepreneurs in emerging destinations covered by the Ministry's flagship scheme. By sharing valuable travel and homestay insights, Airbnb will contribute to the formulation of responsible tourism policies and training requirements.
G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Tourism Minister, expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing that Airbnb's global reach will enhance the visibility of India's diverse and unique accommodation offerings. This collaboration will provide travelers with an opportunity to experience India's rich heritage firsthand. Minister Reddy believes that the partnership will significantly boost inbound tourism, generate economic opportunities for local communities, and position India prominently on the global tourism map.
