He highlighted Bhutan's tourism policy, which prioritizes the happiness and well-being of visitors throughout their journey. Speaking at the 'India-Bhutan Tourism: Expanding Horizons' event hosted by FICCI, he emphasized Bhutan's commitment to Gross National Happiness, aiming for balanced progress encompassing economic growth, societal advancement, cultural preservation, and effective governance.
Prime Minister Tobgay underscored the significance of good governance in ensuring the safety and security of tourists under the rule of law in Bhutan. Expressing his commitment to bolstering air access to Bhutan, he announced plans to target 150,000 Indian tourists in the coming years and solicited industry support for this endeavor.
Highlighting Bhutan's traveler-friendly policies, he mentioned the absence of a visa requirement for Indian tourists, with only a travel permit necessary. Tobgay urged Indian tour operators to collaborate with the Bhutanese government to craft specialized tour packages encompassing cultural, environmental, spiritual, and adventure experiences. Additionally, he revealed plans to open up the tourism sector to foreign direct investment (FDI).
Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Past President of FICCI, emphasized Bhutan's potential for tourism growth, citing its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and commitment to sustainable development. She stressed the importance of trust-building between India and Bhutan and proposed collaboration in infrastructure development, including road construction and airport expansion.
Mr. Dipak Deva, Chairman of FICCI's Tourism & Culture Committee, echoed the need for increased air connectivity between India and Bhutan, emphasizing the shared history and mutual benefits of closer collaboration. Earlier, Mr. SK Pathak, Secretary-General of FICCI, reminisced about FICCI's delegation to Bhutan and highlighted the memorable experience of trekking to the Paro Taktsang, underscoring the allure of Bhutan's tourism offerings.
