Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to launch the highly anticipated Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle in India this July. In a collaborative effort between Hero and Harley Davidson, the motorcycle was developed at Hero's R&D Centre in Jaipur with input from the Harley Davidson team during the design process. Bookings for the X440 have already begun.
Under a licensing agreement, Hero MotoCorp will not only introduce the X440 but also develop and sell a range of premium motorcycles under the renowned Harley-Davidson brand name. As per the distribution agreement, Hero MotoCorp will handle the sales, service, and distribution of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as the sale of parts, accessories, riding gear, and apparel. This will be accomplished through a network of exclusive Harley-Davidson dealerships and Hero's existing dealership network across India. It's worth noting that the jointly developed motorcycle will be marketed as a Harley-Davidson in India, while the underlying platform will also be utilized for an upscale Hero motorcycle.
This collaboration between Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson originated in 2020 when Harley-Davidson decided to withdraw from the Indian market. Hero MotoCorp became the sole distributor of Harley motorcycles in India, and both companies agreed to join forces in motorcycle development. Niranjan Gupta, the newly appointed CEO of Hero MotoCorp, has announced plans to introduce the company's largest lineup of premium motorcycles ever in FY24, marking a significant milestone for the company's growth.
Looking ahead, Hero MotoCorp, led by CEO Niranjan Gupta, is strategically preparing to expand its range of electric two-wheelers as part of its future growth strategies. Furthermore, the company is committed to upgrading its current sales infrastructure to solidify its position in the premium segment.
