The German National Tourist Office India recently hosted a series of high-profile events for travel agents across Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. These events were designed to showcase Germany’s diverse tourism offerings, offering travel agents and their clients valuable insights on the benefits of visiting Germany.
Highlighting Germany’s natural beauty, historic cities, and cultural experiences, the events emphasized how Germany is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for Indian travelers. With more direct flights from India to Frankfurt and Munich, Germany is now more accessible than ever.
Each event saw over 120 travel agents in attendance, reflecting strong interest in Germany as a travel destination. The events also showcased the continued growth in Indian travel to Germany, with a notable increase in extended stays and diverse travel experiences, including rail journeys, self-drive tours, and cruises. In fact, the number of overnight stays by Indian travelers in Germany rose by nearly 40% from 693,000 to 962,000 between 2018 and 2019.
The upward trend continued in 2023, with Indian visitors generating 826,000 overnight stays—an impressive 33% increase from 2022. This growing interest was mirrored in the event’s enthusiastic participation from both first-time and returning partners, eager to engage with India’s travel trade post-pandemic.
The roadshow featured key partners such as Baden-Baden Tourism Board, Visit Berlin, Frankfurt Airport, Lufthansa Group, Rail Europe, Outlet City Metzingen, Wertheim and Ingolstadt Village, Steigenberger and Maritim Hotels, House of 1000 Clocks, and Globus Family of Brands. Their participation contributed to meaningful interactions and an overall positive response from the Indian travel industry.
Looking ahead, the German National Tourist Office India is set to continue this momentum, with upcoming events in Jaipur and Coimbatore in November, in collaboration with Lufthansa Group.
Romit Theophilus, Director of Marketing & Sales Office India, shared, "Germany's popularity as a travel destination in India continues to grow. Our events with partners aim to educate agents about Germany’s unique offerings, making it an affordable and accessible destination for Indian travelers."
