n a move to streamline passenger travel and improve efficiency, GMR Hyderabad International Airport has implemented a self-baggage drop system near entry gate number-9, according to an official statement. The airport has installed eight fully automated self-baggage machines equipped with scanners, scales, and sensors. Passengers can now complete their baggage check-in process within 45-60 seconds, as stated by GHIAL in a press release on Monday.
To begin the process, passengers can approach a self-check-in kiosk where they can print their boarding pass and select the baggage option. They can then provide the necessary details and print the bag tag. Once the baggage is tagged, passengers can proceed to the self-bag drop unit. Here, they simply place their baggage on the conveyor belt and scan the barcode on their boarding pass to initiate the process. The unit performs a quick inspection, and if all requirements are met, it processes the bag and sends a confirmation to the airline.
In cases where baggage fails to meet the necessary criteria, the unit will reject it, and a check-in agent will be available to assist the passenger. For excess baggage, passengers are advised to visit the airline's baggage counter. Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, expressed his satisfaction with the new service, stating, "We are delighted to introduce the self-baggage facility at Hyderabad Airport, providing added convenience to our transit passengers. By integrating technology into the check-in process, we aim to make travel faster and simpler. As we continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies, our commitment remains to offer a delightful travel experience for all our passengers."
