IndiGo, India’s leading airline, is expanding its international network with new direct flights to Jaffna, marking its 34th international destination and the 122nd overall in its rapidly growing 6E network. Jaffna becomes IndiGo’s second destination in Sri Lanka, following Colombo.
This new route will bolster cultural and trade relations between India and Sri Lanka, enhancing cooperation in commerce, infrastructure, and air connectivity. It will also serve as a cultural and social bridge, facilitating family reunions, educational opportunities, and tourism. The flights will make it easier for people to access healthcare and engage in cultural exchanges, enriching lives on both sides of the Palk Strait.
Mr. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, commented, "We are excited to launch our new flights to Jaffna. This route is a strategic addition that will strengthen trade and tourism between India and Sri Lanka. With a flight time of just 75 minutes from Chennai, we continue to uphold our commitment to providing excellent connectivity and a wide range of destinations. IndiGo remains dedicated to offering affordable, timely, and hassle-free travel experiences."
The route between Chennai and Jaffna has seen strong demand, with over 21,000 passengers in nine months last year. The new direct flights will further support Sri Lanka's tourism revival and enhance connectivity. Jaffna, located in Sri Lanka’s northern province, offers a rich cultural and historical experience, including landmarks like Jaffna Fort and the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, reflecting the city's Tamil heritage and resilience.
