ITA Airways has inaugurated its first direct flight connecting Rome Fiumicino with Bangkok, marking the airline's debut in the Thai market. The new route will be operated by an Airbus A330neo, offering five weekly frequencies.
The inaugural flight, AZ 758, departed from Rome Fiumicino and landed at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) at 8:25 am local time on Sunday, November 17. The return flight, AZ 759, took off from Bangkok to Rome at 12:15 pm local time.
To celebrate the launch, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the arrival gate of Bangkok Airport, attended by notable dignitaries, including Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways, and H.E. Paolo Dionisi, the Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, alongside officials from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Airport of Thailand Public Limited Company.
Following the launch, ITA Airways hosted a media event in collaboration with TAT at the Capella Hotel in Bangkok to showcase the airline’s network, brand, and winter season highlights.
This new Rome-Bangkok route marks a significant milestone for ITA Airways, extending its network into a strategically important market. Bangkok is a major global hub for both leisure and business travel, and the new nonstop service reflects ITA Airways’ commitment to offering expanded travel options while strengthening its global network.
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways, stated, "We are thrilled to launch our new nonstop Bangkok-Rome flight, the only direct connection between the two capitals. Rome Fiumicino to Bangkok:
- Departure: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at 3:15 pm (local time)
- Arrival in Bangkok: 7:40 am (local time)
This new route will continue into the 2025 Summer Season with three weekly frequencies.
A330neo Aircraft Experience
The new Bangkok-Rome service is operated using the Airbus A330neo, a state-of-the-art aircraft that showcases ITA Airways’ commitment to innovation and sustainability. The A330neo features an Airspace cabin with spacious seating, sophisticated lighting, and a cutting-edge in-flight entertainment system, including 4K touchscreen displays, Bluetooth audio, and Wi-Fi connectivity for messaging, browsing, and streaming.
The aircraft offers three classes: Business (30 seats), Premium (24 seats), and Economy (237 seats, including 36 Comfort Economy seats). ITA Airways’ fleet, which includes 100 aircraft, prioritizes sustainability with advanced models designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
ITA Airways’ Expanding Network
This new service is part of ITA Airways’ broader network expansion. The airline will serve 55 destinations during the 2024/2025 Winter Season, including 24 international and 15 intercontinental routes. After launching its Dubai route in late October, ITA Airways is also planning to introduce a direct connection to Malé, Maldives, with up to five weekly flights beginning December 20, 2024, also operated by the Airbus A330-900.
Since its operational launch in October 2021, ITA Airways has quickly grown to become a global player, emphasizing “Made in Italy” in its service offerings through collaborations with renowned Italian brands, such as Brunello Cucinelli and Walter De Silva.
