Kerala has opened its fourth International Airport at Kannur. A major boost to the tourism sector of Kerala, the inauguration was held on 9th December.
Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala and Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Civil Aviation Minister jointly flagged off the Abu Dhabi-bound Air India Express flight, marking the commissioning of the greenfield airport developed near Mattannur in Kannur.
Ms. Rani George, Secretary, Kerala Tourism said earlier, “Kerala received a large number of both domestic and international tourists in the past years. The international arrivals have been growing every year and in 2017 our international arrivals is 10.91 lakhs. The domestic arrivals were 146 lakhs in 2017. The Kannur International Airport (KIAL) will increase connectivity to the Northern part of Kerala. Now our focus is to promote the North Malabar that is rich with vibrant culture and heritage.”
