Q. How important is the MICE business for your country and what percentage of total business you comprise from the MICE?
The MICE tourism is very important for us because it gives us an opportunity to allow professional business and incentive visitors to visit Bhutan who are usually well travelled and responsible.
Last year we had around 6% of the total 65,399 regional tourists who had come for MICE. (* regional visitors are visitors from Indian, Maldives and Bangladesh. But majority of the regional visitors are from India.)
Q. why one needs to go to your country for MICE business instead of others, what are the facilities your country provide to them?
- Bhutan is an exclusive travel destination close to India
- It is a short haul destination
- Bhutan has calm and serene environment; a propelling working environment
- We have world class properties
- One can have great cultural experiences
Q. How is the response from Indian MICE segment? Are there any challenges which you’re facing in the current scenario?
We had steady growth in MICE segment over the years. However, the challenge we face is lack of awareness on Bhutan as a MICE destination.
Q. Tell us the round fig. of MICE 2014 in your country from Indian MICE segment? Also share your expectations for 2015 and the marketing strategies with which you’re coming?
In 2014 we had around 6% of the total 65,399 regional visitors under MICE segment.
We hope that the companies and event organizers will recognize the potential of Bhutan as MICE destination and we hope to receive lots of MICE visitors for the year.
We are looking forward to working very closely with media to create awareness on Bhutan as MICE destination and also we will be participating in various travel and tourism events. We also encourage our travel industry partners to promote Bhutan as a niche MICE destination.

MICE travelers have just started to realize the potential of Bhutan as a MICE destination so Bhutan still remains to be explored as a MICE destination.
