Actress Priyanka Chopra has publicly disclosed, for the first time, the derogatory and racially discriminatory remarks she encountered while attending school in the US during her teenage years. In a recent podcast interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she opened up about the bullying she endured. When asked by Alex about the specific nature of the bullying, Priyanka replied, "It always revolved around a boy." She explained that a group of girls accused her of dating a boy they were interested in and proceeded to torment her with racial slurs. Priyanka recalled, "Instead of saying, 'Stay away from my man,' they resorted to racial slurs like, 'I smell curry,' 'Ooh, I smell curry when she walks down the hallway,' 'I don't think she even has time to shower.' They said nasty, racially-charged things. It escalated to bullying, pushing me against lockers, and writing hurtful messages in bathroom stalls. It was the typical mean girl behavior that you often find in high school." Priyanka admitted that she didn't understand why it was happening to her but acknowledged that it made her feel inferior and diminished. She stated, "It made me feel small, inadequate as if I had to hide my true self and downplay my abilities. But that's not who I am. My parents instilled in me a sense of confidence, embracing my uniqueness and being comfortable with it." Eventually, Priyanka decided to follow the advice her father had given her every time they relocated due to his job as an army doctor — she packed her bags and left. "I thought, 'Screw you, America! I'm going back to India,' and I'm glad I did because it kick-started my entire career," she revealed. Upon returning to India, Priyanka participated in the Miss India and Miss World pageants, winning the title of Miss World 2000. She then ventured into acting and made her mark in the film industry. In 2015, she moved to the United States to work on her first TV series, Quantico. In 2018, she tied the knot with Nick Jonas, and her most recent appearances include the Prime Video series Citadel and the romantic comedy Love Again.
