In celebration of Onam, Air India Express has unveiled a new Boeing 737-8 aircraft at Cochin International Airport, adorned with a tail design inspired by Kerala's traditional "Kasavu" fabric. The Kasavu, known for its off-white or cream color and golden borders, is a symbol of purity, prosperity, and auspiciousness, featuring intricate motifs like floral patterns, peacocks, and elephants. This design is traditionally worn during special occasions and festivals such as Onam.
To commemorate this occasion, Air India Express staff in Kochi greeted the new aircraft, registered VT-BXM, dressed in traditional Kasavu dhotis and sarees. The airline's boarding counters were decorated with Onam-themed displays, including a Pookkalam (floral arrangement), and each passenger on this flight was welcomed with a Kasavu shawl. The aircraft operates on the Kochi–Bengaluru route.
Since its brand relaunch in October of last year, Air India Express has introduced a modern take on its heritage tail art under the ‘Patterns of India’ theme, featuring unique designs on each new aircraft. The airline has added 34 new aircraft to its fleet, each showcasing distinct tail designs inspired by the rich textile patterns of India.
