“Our body requires a certain amount of protein. 80% of vegetarians face protein deficiency.” Said Rishubh Satiya, CEO & Founder, Plix
1. Tell us about the journey of Plix.
Plix started a year back. The journey has been exponential. We have witnessed around 10x to 15x growth in the last year, as awareness about plant-based protein, health, fitness, nutrition, eating whole food products, and clean label ingredients had led to an increase in the demand for such products.
I started building Plix around 18 to 20 months back when I was looking at the protein market and found most products to be very intimidating. I was looking at Whey protein and thought this is not the product I would consume for my body.
I wanted to look at natural products, clean labels, something which did not have any artificial ingredients. That is when I thought of launching a plant-based protein, which was the need of the Indian market. The journey has been great. The demand is only growing, and we hope to witness a further increase in demand.
2. Please shed light on the USP of Plix.
Plix is made from whole food ingredients. We extract the protein from peas and brown rice. We do not add any artificial colours or flavours; no added sugar or preservatives. It is basically a clean label product.
Most people are lactose intolerant or sensitive to dairy. Some people cannot consume a product like whey because it is a heavily concentrated form of milk. So Plix is very useful for them because it does not cause any bloating, acne, or digestion problem. It can be consumed on a daily basis.
Another special feature is the flavour. We flavour our products with fruit powder. In the mango flavour, we add freeze-dried mango powder. In the café mocha, we use filter coffee.
We do not add any artificial products and only use real ingredients. We believe that real ingredients equal real results.
3. It always heard that protein powders are not good for health because of its side effects. What you would like to say about this.
It is not that protein powder is not good for your health. It all depends on what type of protein, who is consuming it, in what quantity, the brand, does it have artificial flavour, colours, preservatives, etc. That is what matters.
If you are consuming 2-3 scoops a day without exercising, then it might be harmful. But if you are consuming 1 scoop a day and have a clean plant-based protein, then it is absolutely fine.
Our body requires a certain amount of protein. 80% of vegetarians face protein deficiency. For example, one needs to consume 1gm of protein according to bodyweight, even if you have a normal lifestyle, not a fit or active one. So, one needs to consume 80 gm of protein if they weigh 80 kg.
Usually, a normal individual will not be able to consume the required quantity in their usual diet. To ensure the body receives the required amount of protein, consuming powder can prove to be very useful, ensuring you hit your macros.
4. What product from Plix you would like to suggest boosting immunity
I recommend using the Vitamin C immunity booster we have launched. We specifically launched this product during the pandemic to make sure that everyone’s health is good, and their immunity is strong enough to fight the virus.
We launched a 1000mg serving of Vitamin C, which helps in increasing the WBC’s, which are necessary to fight the virus. Consuming this on a daily basis ensures that you are fit. This can be consumed daily because Vitamin C is water-soluble.
I would recommend you have the Plix Vitamin C immunity booster. It comes in an orange fizzy drink format and will make sure you get your daily dose of Vitamin C.
5. COVID 19 impacts can be seen in many industries. How difficult it is for Plix to face this challenge?
COVID-19 has impacted a lot of industries. It has affected the health and fitness industry too. Plix has also faced the impact of this wave. There have been a lot of issues with warehousing, transportation, labour, delivery, etc.
Our delivery timings have faced a huge impact. Where it usually took 2-3 days to deliver, it now takes 7-10 days. This is due to the restrictions placed on transportation and movement, and the lack of manpower. To overcome this, we requested consumers to make pre-paid orders so that we could enable no contact delivery.
We also started working with different logistics in place to ensure consumers receive their orders on time. As retail is facing a major setback, we are trying to create an online structure and are looking to build more e-commerce so that we can reach our consumers effectively.
6. Please convey a message for our readers
During the pandemic, I hope all readers are staying safe and healthy. I would suggest they consume whole food and plant-based ingredients to maintain their body and stay healthy.
I would also request everyone to reduce public appearances and maintain social distancing, using e-commerce as a platform to shop rather than in-person shopping. Stay healthy, stay safe.
