The US aviation watchdog, has given India its highest rating for air safety

India has been deemed to have met international aviation safety oversight standards by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after conducting a thorough evaluation of the country's aviation regulatory system. This is a significant achievement for India, which has been working towards improving its aviation safety standards for several years. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced that the FAA informed them on April 12 that India complies with the aviation safety oversight standards of the Chicago Convention and maintains its FAA IASACategory 1 status, which was last assessed in July 2018. Category 1 status enables air carriers from such countries to operate and expand services to the US and establish codeshare agreements with US carriers. The International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) programme evaluates whether a country’s airline oversight meets International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards. The IASA programme also assesses a country’s adherence to international aviation safety standards and recommended practices outlined in the International Convention on Civil Aviation, known as the Chicago Convention. The Convention, which was signed in December 1944, created the ICAO, a specialised United Nations organisation in charge of organising international air traffic. Between October 25 to October 29, 2021, the FAA performed a DGCA audit that looked at personnel license, airworthiness, and aircraft operations. Final consultations were held in April 2022, and additional evaluations were conducted in July and September 2022 as a result of the International Aviation Safety examination examination. The DGCA's dedication to establishing efficient safety monitoring of India's aviation system was acknowledged by the FAA. India's designation as Category 1 comes at a time when the country's aviation industry is experiencing substantial growth and expansion plans. Indian airlines currently fly more than 700 commercial aircraft, and they have orders for approximately 800 more.India's Effective Implementation (EI) score improved dramatically in a recent ICAO audit, going from 69.95% to 85.65%, which helped the country move up the world rankings.
